M-30 Closure
Beginning on Monday, March 4th at 7:00am, M-30 over the Tobacco River will be closed to remove the temporary bridge placed following the 2020 dam breach and construct a permanent bridge. M-30 traffic will be detoured using Curtis Road, M-18, and Dale Road. Additionally, there will be a truck detour for M-30 using US-10, M-18, and M-61. I have attached the detour map for convenience. Please be aware of a major change to one intersection along the detour route—There will be an all way stop put into place at Dale Road and M-18. This closure on M-30 is expected to last through mid-October. I will continue to send out updates of the progress of the bridge throughout the construction season.

Reconstruction over the Tobacco River in Gladwin County
Beginning this fall (shortly after the Labor Day weekend, 2023) and continuing thru 2024, MDOT will be completing a construction project on M-30 north of Edenville. A summary of the work includes removal of the temporary bridge and construction of a permanent bridge, drainage, guardrail, and approach work on M-30 over the Tobacco River in Gladwin County.
A brief description of the major items of work with anticipated construction timeframes are outlined as follows:
* Detour route upgrades along Curtis and Dale Road’s, between M-30 and M-18, are to be completed in the fall of 2023. Traffic will be maintained along the County Road routes with single lane closures via flag control.
* Tree removals to be completed late fall and/or in the winter of 2023/2024. Traffic will be maintained along M-30 with either shoulder closures or with single lane closures via flag control as required.
* Removal of the temporary bridge and construction of the permanent bridge on M-30 over the Tobacco River from approximately March thru September of 2024. Traffic will be maintained via a local detour that consists of M-30 to Curtis Rd, Curtis Rd to M-18, M-18 to Dale Rd, and Dale Rd to M-30. A separate truck detour will be set up utilizing US-10 to M-18 to M-61 to M-30 to help alleviate as much truck traffic from traveling M-30 as possible.
* Remaining work related items are to be completed in October and early November 2024. Traffic will be maintained along M-30 with either shoulder closures or with single lane closures via flag control as required.
Note that a separate M-30 closure with detour will be required this fall for work that will be needed as part of the Edenville Dam restoration project. That work is being coordinated thru the local agencies that are involved and is anticipated to take 2-3 weeks and utilize the local detour described above.
